Alphabetical DEFINITIONS to terms and abbreviations used on this page are HERE.

If you are not a webmaster you can NOT use this method.
You might get an inbound link to your company affiliate page, to your QS2W hosted lead capture page, or to your TrafficWave hosted lead capture page, by using the techniques I've already described.  But there is no way you can put their link on your website, because you do not have one.  If you want to do link exchanges, you need to get your own domain and become a webmaster.

Try a link submission form search on Google
Use the following search phrase:

(keyword here) "Please also suggest my link to the LinkPartners.com Directory."
Find link partners at this link exchange website:  http://www.linkmetro.com.  They are ranked just like on ebay.  Link exchange partners will usually want a link back from your website.  If you are creative, you might be able to figure a way to get one-way inbound links from high page rank sites such as these:

    (PR 9) amazon.com
    (PR 9) ebay
    (PR 9) Google Groups
    (PR 9) http://youtube.com
    (PR 8) Yahoo Answers
    (PR 8) Yahoo Groups
   (PR 8) Craig's List
    (PR 8) Digg
    (PR 8) Facebook
    (PR 8) Myspace
    (PR 8) PayPal
    (PR 8) WordPress

Google your niche.
Do a search on Google to find other sites in your niche.  See who your competitors are link-exchanging with.  You want to exchange links with high PR sites that are relevant but not directly competitive to yours.  A link exchange must be mutually beneficial.  Link exchanging is about quality, not quantity.  It is much better to exchange links with a few high PR, relevant websites, than it is to exchange links with hundreds of low-ranking websites that have no relevancy to the theme topic of your website.

How to approach a prospective link partner
When you email the webmaster with whom you wish to exchange links, make your request  in a polite manner and be brief.  If his site has a high PR (and it does or you shouldn't be interested anyway), remember that he probably gets at least a hundred such requests daily.  Put yourself in the other webmaster's place, because someday you will be.  Think of how you will respond to all the new webmasters wanting to link exchange with you after your site has obtained a high PR.  With that in mind, below are a few pointers to follow when requesting a link exchange.

  • Don't just ask just because his website has a high PR Look at his website.  See what it is about..  In your email to the webmaster, make it clear that you have actually visited his site and spent the time to see how its content could be complementary to yours - and yours to his.  If you can find the webmaster's name on his website, use it to personalize both your email and your subject line.
  • As a show of good faith, link to the other website first on a search engine friendly page.  When you contact the webmaster, you can tell him where on your site you have placed his link.  Of course if he denies or ignores your request, you can later remove his link.  Give him both the URL of your site and the anchor text you would like him to use to link back to your site.
  • The exchange should be balanced.  Don't expect to have your link in bold keyword-rich anchor text on the other webmaster's home page if you are offering to reciprocate by placing his linkback on an internal "link partners" page with 30 other links.
  • "What's in it for me?"  This other webmaster obviously doesn't need  your link to get higher PR.  He has that already.  You must look at his website and reveal to him how his website could benefit from a link exchange with your  site.  If you can't find a way you could both benefit, don't waste each other's time by asking.  Just move on to the next site.  For a link exchange to happen, it needs to be a "win-win" situation.
  • Present yourself as a professional before you approach another webmaster.  Make sure your site is finished (not "under construction").  Make sure the grammar, punctuation, and spelling are all correct.  The same goes for your email request..
  • Realize that webmasters are very busy.  If you don't get a reply, wait at least a couple weeks before contacting him with a second email which is just as polite as the first.  I have been known to have been so busy that it has taken me several weeks before checking out a requester's site.
  • I advise against using link request software or templates.  A high PR site might get a hundred link exchange request emails a day.  Make yours original; in your own words.  I used to get template requests.  I deleted them immediately.  If you get several a day, it is easy to recognize them.
Keeping in mind the foregoing advice against using templates, take a look at THIS SAMPLE email request for link exchange.  This gives you an idea of what to write, but be sure and change it to make it your own.
